Tummy Tuck Surgery in Mumbai - Dr Shraddha Deshpande

Tummy tuck surgery is a procedure to improve the appearance and comfort of the abdomen. Often with age, abdomen muscles become weak & abdomen area accumulates excess fat and skin. People who undergo weight loss experience loose skin around belly & at times, regular exercise, work out doesn’t help get rid of this excess fat. Women after pregnancy experience fat bulge even if their overall body shape is back to pre-pregnancy level.

Using Abdominoplasty (also called Tummy Tick), patients have the option of removing excess skin, excess fat and repair stretched muscles. Abdominoplasty is often combined with liposuction to remove excessive fat & get improved body contour.

Operation

Way to perform abdominoplasty is greatly driven by patient’s condition though common method involves taking a long horizontal incision across the lower abdomen & lifting excess soft tissue off the wall of abdomen up to the rib cage. Excess skin & fat is removed and the skin is pulled down. The belly button is repositioned through a new small opening.

Tummy tuck surgery (Abdominoplasty procedure) is performed under general anesthesia & takes anywhere between 3 to 5 hours.  The procedure requires overnight stay.

Result

Abdominoplasty procedure will help achieve following.

  • Removal of excessive fat & skin around tummy area
  • Firmer, Flatter abdomen matching overall body figure
  • Improved body image and self-esteem

What about scars?

For Abdominoplasty, incision is taken below bathing suit line or bikini line. Incisions made during plastic surgery are usually thin. Scars often fade with time and become barely noticeable. Scar lightening will take several months up to a year after surgery. Scarring tends to be most visible in people with extremely dark skin. Please discuss about scars with your surgeon.

Risks/ Complications

Abdominoplasty is generally a safe procedure but following potential complaints, risks and complications may occur; most of the which will subside in 2 weeks’ time. These are largely driven by one’s healing abilities.

  • Nausea
  • Itching around wound

In rare case, as with all surgical procedures, a revision surgery may be necessary to correct minor irregularities.

Care after treatment/ surgery

There will be abdominal drain and bladder catheter immediately following surgery. The catheter is removed day after surgery and drain is usually removed before discharge from hospital. Abdominal incision and belly button will be covered with surgical dressing to support natural healing process, minimize bruising and swelling. Most patients return to normal activities within 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. It may be several weeks before you can do vigorous activities including gym, sex etc. Your recovery in hospital during 1st few days after surgery will be very fast as your body will channelize all its energy on healing.

After you are discharged from hospital, you will see your surgeon in post-surgery follow up sessions during which as well, you will be given more guidance on care, activities etc. Any plastic or other surgery does not stop biological ageing process and your surgeon will recommend you ways to have effect of surgery lasted for long.
